First steps

What is the procedure for picking up and returning a vehicle?

Picking up the vehicle

Reservation: Reserve a vehicle via the FLEX mobile app (available for Android and iOS) or the online portal.

Unlocking: Go to the selected station at the confirmed booking time. Use the app to unlock the vehicle.

Returning the vehicle

Return to the original station: Return the vehicle to the same station where you picked it up. The FLEX system operates as a closed loop (‘A-to-A’), which means that the vehicle must be returned to its starting point.

Parking: Park the vehicle in the parking space reserved for FLEX.

Checks:

Fuel: Make sure the tank is at least one-third full. A fuel card is located in the glove compartment; the PIN code is specified in your reservation.

Cleanliness: Remove any obvious dirt and take all your rubbish with you when you leave the vehicle.

Ending the reservation: Turn off the engine and lock the vehicle using the app. Make sure that all doors, windows and the boot are closed.

How do I book a FLEX car?

The FLEX Carsharing app is available free of charge on:

Create your account

When you register, you will need to:

  • Provide your personal details.
  • Upload a copy of your driving licence.
  • Set up your driver profile.

Your account will usually be validated quickly during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

Book your vehicle

Once you have registered, you can book a vehicle by:

  • Launching the app.
  • Selecting the desired station.
  • Setting the day and time of your booking.
  • Choosing the vehicle that suits you.

Reser­va­tions can be made up to 30 days in advance.

Access the vehicle

At the time of your reservation:

  • Go to the selected station.
  • Unlock the vehicle via the app.

Enjoy your journey

Drive the vehicle as needed. Fuel, insurance, cleaning and maintenance are included in the price.

Are there any additional costs when travelling with FLEX (tolls, vignettes, parking)?

Yes, there may be additional costs when using FLEX. These are not included in the rental price. They may include:

  • Toll fees and vignettes (e.g. on highways in Austria, Switzerland, or France)
  • Access charges for envi­ron­men­tal zones in certain cities
  • Parking fees on public or private lots outside FLEX stations

During your trip

Can I return my car to a different location?

No, you have to return the FLEX vehicle back to the departure station.

The vehicle cannot be opened.

Make sure you have an active booking for the vehicle. Your smartphone must have a internet connection and Bluetooth must be enabled. Make sure you are using the FLEX app to open the vehicle. If you still cannot open the vehicle, please contact our FLEX Ser­vice­cen­ter on +352 2883 3882.

What should I do when a vehicle is blocking the parking upon return?

If the FLEX station is blocked by another vehicle, park as close as possible and report the situation via the app or by calling our customer service. We’ll take care of it, and your return time will be adjusted if needed.

How it works

What is the difference between car sharing and carpooling?

Car sharing allows you to rent a car for a short period of time via an app - you drive yourself and return the car at the end.
Carpooling is sharing a journey with other people in the same car, usually with a single driver.

Before your trip

What do I have to pay attention to when starting?

For your safety, please observe the following points:

  • Check the vehicle carefully for new damage, dirt, and other irreg­u­lar­i­ties (e.g., cigarette smell …) and report these cases before starting your trip using the Report damage” function in the FLEX app. Otherwise, you are liable for damage to the vehicle that you may not have caused yourself. Already known damages are marked with a sticker or noted in the app.

  • Make all necessary settings in the car before starting the vehicle.

  • Turn on the lights.

  • In winter, make sure that all windows have a clear view.

  • Pay full attention to traffic, especially from the moment you start driving.

How do I open a FLEX vehicle?

As soon as a reservation for a vehicle is active, you can open and close it directly with the FLEX App on your smartphone.

After your trip

Do I need to refuel the car after each tour?

No, you have to return the FLEX vehicle to the departure carsharing station. FLEX is a round-trip-based carsharing service.
